Offerings for Students and Staff of the Hochschule Merseburg

Intercultural Competence

Certificate for Students and Staff

The "Intercultural Competence" certificate is an extracurricular offer from the Hochschule Merseburg for its students and employees: in addition to language skills, stays abroad, and intercultural awareness, this certificate also highlights the Hochschule Merseburg’s own intercultural engagement.

Language courses for Students and Staff

Increasing internationalization means that knowledge of foreign countries, including their language, culture, history and traditions, is more important now than ever before.
For many degree programs, at least one foreign language is compulsory. The courses offered include English, French, Russian, Spanish and German as a foreign language.
We offeradditional courses for students outside of the curriculum to prepare for stays abroad or as proof for a future Master's application. Special courses are also offered for university staff to help them meet the demands of everyday professional life.

Learning Opportunities, Further education, Participation in Congress or Lecture tours abroad

Teaching opportunities and further education for university staff can be carried out via Erasmus+ or within the framework of university cooperation. Funding for participation in congress or lecture trips is possible through the DAAD.

Internationalization Strategy

The internationalization strategy and the goals and measures contained therein are intended to increase the attractiveness of the range of courses offered to domestic and international students and to further expand successful international activities. It is relevant not only for teaching and research, but also for administrative processes. Along with the mobility of students and university staff, this strategy also promotes internationalization "on site" and the integration of international students.

Key objectives:

  • Increasing the proportion of international students pursuing an academic degree
  • Stabilization and increase of exchange student mobility both (incoming + outgoing)
  • Maintaining cooperation with partner universities and establishing new contacts
  • Consolidation and expansion of the welcoming culture: integration and support
  • Strengthening internationalization "on site"
  • Internationalization of research

FAQ

FAQ

The International Office/Language Centre is located in room Hg/G/1/023.

The following programs are offered by the university:

  • Studying and internships within Europe: Erasmus+, HAW International
  • Studying and internships outside Europe: within university cooperations
  • Studying and internships outside Europe: DAAD-PROMOS, HAW International
  • Internships worldwide for engineers: DAAD-IAESTE
  • Anytime from the first semester of your studies, but usually 4th, 5th, 6th semester
  • During the Master's program

Good foreign language skills must be proven when applying. The specific requirements are determined by the respective scholarship or exchange program as well as by the host universities.

All exchange programs include a learning agreement. This includes the choice of courses at the host university and agrees on the subsequent recognition of foreign academic achievements. In this case, a stay abroad does not extend the regular duration of study.

FAQ

If you do not pass, the exam can be repeated at the host university according to its regulations. Alternatively an equivalent exam can be taken at the Hochschule Merseburg.

  • DAAD scholarships: The DAAD offers scholarships to students of all subjects who would like to attend a university abroad.
  • Erasmus+: If you want to study at a partner university in a European country, you can apply for the Erasmus+ program.
  • DAAD-PROMOS: For shorter stays outside Europe of up to six months, the DAAD program PROMOS is a good choice.
  • HAW.International: Study semesters, internships abroad and participation in congress and trade fair trips
  • BAföG abroad: Studying abroad in the EU can be fully supported by BAföG abroad.
  • Bildungskredit (Education loan): Regardless of the income of your parents, you can apply for the Bildungskredit from the federal government.

During your stay abroad, you are not insured by Hochschule Merseburg. You are responsible for your own insurance coverage. However, some host universities offer insurance coverage.

This is possible in principle. The thesis topic and advising must be coordinated in advance between Hochschule Merseburg and the host university.

Former exchange students have written reports about their experiences. These can be viewed in the International Office or on our website.

Application deadlines and requirements vary depending on the program. Please check our pages for more information.

You can obtain an International Student ID Card (ISIC) from the following organizations:

With the ISIC, you get discounts on flights, transportation, leisure activities and much more.
